How Domestic Violence effects Real Estate Choices
Heartbreakingly true ~ The increase of Domestic Violence is exponential!
People are beginning to see the truth about their husband, their wife, their partner, their parent, their child. This is not a news flash…more of an acknowledgement and validation for those stuck behind closed doors with their abusers. As a survivor, my heart goes out to each of you experiencing this and needing to call the police, file for a restraining order, move out, sell your home, file for divorce, or hope to find a more peaceful transition with your narcissist. (Research the word narcissist!)
I willingly share my determination to survive with each of you, hoping it will help you find the strength to do what you need to do.
Why are you reading about escaping abuse on a real estate site?
Escaping an abusive situation is one of the hardest things you will do in your life, because only YOU can decide when the time is right to escape your abusive situation, the court and attorneys often define the timing. Real estate is often a huge component of the escape, surviving and then, thriving. It impacts where you live, your transition and future proceeds.
Once you see your situation as abusive, it gets more confusing rather than less. You know you must make a choice to put up with abuse or break your own heart to escape and survive. Your abuser’s reaction to you taking action will be overwhelming, and mostly manipulative & negative. There are many domestic violence resources and hotlines to support you during this process. Please pick up the phone. It’s scary at first, but I promise your experience will be validated.
If you are in danger, call the police with intent to remove the perpetrator!!! This helps the police help you.
Best not to call in front of your abuser if possible.
Often, taking your first step of escaping includes a real estate element.
Escaping your abusive environment takes moxie and a plan.
